Forever

We

They are all a little piece of time that we don’t get back. They are memories of people who are no longer with us. Homes that we’ve moved on from. They are stories of people and places and things that we never want to let go of even long after our time here on earth.

When we were younger, the conversations would center around mocking each other and competing for the “cutest child” award. But as we’ve all aged, we find ourselves obsessing over the family’s history. To this day, we all come home to that very same table in my parent’s kitchen and still piece together our deep family roots. We’ve become comforted by the aroma of aged ink and the linen paper texture passing through our hands. That little flickering echo sound when you pass the flimsy paper to the hands beside you. The nostalgic feeling you get when you look at each photograph knowing that this paper is one of a kind and cannot be recreated. A true treasure.

If you were to ask me what some of my most beloved memories are, they would all center around the same table. Within various stages of life, my four siblings, our parents, and I would gather around the kitchen table after pulling out the 18-gallon bin of photos from the basement. Sometimes it would be prompted by a procrastinated school project, other times it was the bantering over a ridiculous outfit recollection and someone needing to prove how truly horrendous it was, and occasionally amidst a grieving moment, we’d turn to the bin looking for a memorial portrait. Whatever the reason, we would sit around for hours passing hundreds of photographs in circles. We would get lost in the bin completely losing track of the time or what we were originally looking for. The table would be covered with images - Low quality photos of our childhood through the lens of a disposable camera, mostly underexposed, dark reminisce of a familiar face, faded black-and-white portraits of our grandparents, military portraits, wedding prints, old yearbooks, the list goes on. None of these photographs come close to the quality of our instant images today, and yet each one of them are perfect. They are e all a little piece of time that we don’t get back.

Ageless

This is why your photos matter. Being able to gift this emotion to your family and spark generations of conversations to happen within your own dinner table is the most humbling and rewarding experience I’ve ever known. This is why I believe in what I do. Because we are all worthy of soulful imagery that will live on. Time stands still for no one, but a photograph is ageless.

The nostalgic feeling you get when you look at each photograph knowing that this paper is one of a kind and cannot be recreated.
